Technical Support to Aquaculture in Mauritius

After months, I am suddenly happy to come across an article reading aquaculture development in Mauritius and technical support provided by the Albion Fisheries Research Centre (AFRC) to potential and interested individuals.

The article (click here) provides a good insight of the day-to-day operations and accomplishments of this technical branch of the Ministry of Ocean Economy and I highly recommend you to go through and contact the AFRC, should you be interested to launch in this sector.

I, however, cannot grasp few comments which to my opinions, remain yet to be debated and solved. Local people and investors have always been advised to consider the aquaculture and fisheries sector for future development, which is indeed a bright choice to consider. Who can ignore the political and time-consuming administrative procedures which are real chaos and obstacles to the proper development of the sector. Few interested people I have spoken with, have all expressed their concerns about the political game behind providing access and support to people willing to launch into the aquaculture or fisheries sector.

Same song since years - the Government plans to make the aquaculture sector/ marine economy one of the pillars of the Mauritian economy and promise this sector for the young people. ''Incentives'' to encourage young people to get involved in this field are mere talks.

No one can understand this game better than me...
